Big Bump Friday & The Friendly Friday Blog Hop

I remember being excited at one point over it being Friday! But, that was back in the day before I became a slave to retail, and Friday means only the start of 3 very stressful days filled with grumpy, bargain hunting customers who really have no money to spend, but just want to see how much of a deal they can get out of this furniture sales girl!

Lucy's got yet another big bump above her right eye! (She rotates eyes, left, right, left, right!) She and I were outside enjoying a very hot, very humid but breezy Friday morning. I had attempted to paint my toe nails, but before they could dry, Lucy decided to stand on my foot, and completely smeared the polish. Oh, well! It was nice to have a pretty pedicure for 3 minutes.

After smearing her humans nail polish, Lucy did her mad boxer dash around the yard for a couple of minutes. When she reappeared on the deck, she was wiggling all over the place, and mainly pawing at her face. When I finally got her to quit wiggling enough to see her little face, her muzzle was all red. Although, she's gotten these bumps in the past, her muzzle hasn't ever swollen or gotten red. I immediately went for the Benedryl.

Thankfully, Lucy loves those grape flavored tablets, and was more than happy to oblige her human, nibbling and swallowing in 2 shakes of a boxers nub. But, within 5 minutes, she had an enormous bump above her eye. These bumps mystify me- they don't seem to hurt her. She'll let me touch them. And she acts completely normal, it doesn't seem to phase her one bit that her eye is mostly swollen shut. It's been about 3 hours, and the swelling has gone down a teeny, tiny bit. Hopefully, within the next couple of hours, her eye returns to normal because her mama can't stand seeing her with these big bumps.

I don't know if these bumps are caused by bees, wasps or hornets. We have an overabundance of all 3 in our yard, despite my knocking down nests, spraying, and even setting bait traps. No matter what I do- little Lucy always seems to find these flying pains in the you-know-what!

As I'm sure was obvious by my last post about the swamp- I HAVE HAD WAY, WAY, WAY, MORE THAN ENOUGH! Despite my fiance's rather adamant opinion about leaving the swamp for Lucy to play in, I was bound and determined to stop the insanity! Yesterday after work, I dragged 2 old pallets through the yard, hoisted them over the 6 foot fence (no small task, I assure you!), and proceeded to place them over the top of the swamp! Of course, Lucy was concerned and confused by my activity. But, I did not have a muddy dog, a kitchen floor to scrub, a bathroom covered in swamp water, and a pile of ruined clothes last night! Lucy is still sweet smelling and soft from her Wednesday night bath! Yee haw!
