Lucy's Favorite Thing & A Blog Hop

It's been a long time since Lucy & I have participated in the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop... We can't wait to get out there and meet everyone.

There isn't much that Lucy loves more than an empty water bottle. It would seem that she'll do anything to get her little paws on one of these noise makers!

And when she does get her paws on an empty water bottle, it's pure bliss for the little boxer! I've tried everything to distract Lucy's attention from these bottles because I'm afraid she's going to get hurt on them. I've bought strange little covers for the water bottles, but Lucy just rips them off the bottles.

So, of course there is a plan B... I watch Lucy like a hawk and when I start to think that there's too much destruction to the water bottle, I give her a treat and sneak off with the bottle. After 20 minutes or so, my guilt from taking something that Lucy loves away from her, goes away...

Lucy & I have a bedtime ritual. I'll grab a fresh soup bone from the fridge, and Lucy & I will head upstairs. (Recently, we've added the grabbing of "Lucy's Heater" and dragging it up to the bedroom.)

Lucy will hop up on the bed and wait for me to give her the bone. If I don't give her the bone right away, Lucy will sit and wait for a couple of minutes. If that doesn't work, Lucy will lay down and give me the "Mooooom, comes on" look.

"Comes on, Mom! It's nots like you're gonna chew on dat bone. I sat. Now I'ms laying down. Don'ts I deserves dat bone? I'ms not gonna get any cuter dan dis, so if dis ain't workins, I don't know what else to do..."

On This Day A Year Ago... We're Engaged!!

I can't believe it's been a year, but on this very day August 17th, I officially became a fiance. Here's the story...

Rob & I started dating in September of 2005, combined households and dogs in June of 2006, and started working together in January of 2007. I have known since the first time that he told me he loved me in October of 2005 that I wanted to marry him, but was convinced, despite several conversations about getting engaged, that he would probably remain a bachelor forever!

Then one night in June of 2009, he came home and told me that he didn't want to wait anymore, he wanted to get engaged. My heart started beating wildly and I was so excited for days that it was all I could think about. Several weeks later when he told me to start shopping for the ring I wanted, I knew he was serious! I had no idea at that point that he was going to send me out searching for my dream ring, but that's exactly what happened.

I spent the next month and a half educating myself about diamonds, and visiting local jewelers attempting to find my dream setting. I knew that I wanted a princess cut center stone, I knew that I wanted the setting to have an antique look to it and I knew that it had to be in white gold or platinum. Everytime a jeweler placed a sparking loose princess cut diamond in my hand, my little heart flutters came back as I thought about finally getting engaged to my prince charming.

After a month and a half, I had narrowed my selection down to 3 local jewelers and 3 somewhat similiar settings. I had a favorite, but wanted Rob to have some say in the process. The plan was to spend the day of my 35th birthday visiting each of the 3 jewelers and selecting a diamond from the chosen jeweler. Can you think of a better 35th birthday present than picking out the diamond of your choice, I couldn't!

Ironically, the setting that I thought to be my favorite had been picked out of a catalog, so the first time I saw it was at the jeweler that day with Rob at my side. It took my breath away, and I knew it was the one that I wanted, but we still visited each of the 3 jewelers, and Rob still made me think on it for a couple of days. I was so excited, it was hard to wait, but I know he didn't want me to make a decision that I was going to regret knowing that I would wear the ring for the rest of my days.

2 days after our shopping spree, Rob asked me if I had made up my mind. I told him that I had, and he told me to call the jeweler back and have it set. My hands shook as I made the call, I was thrilled and I couldn't wait to see the finished ring. At this point, we had seen loose diamonds, and the setting, but nothing all put together. The jeweler told me that he would have it ready for us in a couple of hours and that he would deliver it to me... You can imagine what that wait was like...

And finally... around 2:00 that afternoon our jeweler placed a little black box in my hand! And I cried, called Rob on the phone and told him that I couldn't wait for him to put it on my finger that it was the most beautiful and most special thing that anyone had ever given to me. And I still feel the exact same way one year later!

Every 'big' and meaningful conversation that Rob and I have ever had has taken place on our kitchen floor. So, that night when he got home, I handed him the little black box, and we sat down together on the kitchen floor and he 'officially' asked me to be his wife... And you better believe it when I say, that ring has hardly left my finger in the last year. I can't wait to graduate from 'fiance' to 'wife'!

It took about 6 months for the shock and excitement of having a sparking diamond on my finger to ease. I spent a lot of time in the sunlight making it dance...and I admit, I still do it, just not as often!

miscellany monday

Happy Monday Friends! This morning, I'm excited about "Miscellany Monday" hosted by Lowercase Letters . I can't think of anything more perfect or more fitting for me than a chance to just ramble about a bunch of misellaneous stuff that pops into my head- especially on a Monday!

This is gonna be fun! But bear with me, because my brain seems to have taken a complete and total leave of absense, and it left no forwarding address or other method of contact. It just left.

For the last several days, I haven't been feeling quite like my usual bouncy, bubbly self. I feel like I might be fighting off the flu or some other kind of virus, because I just feel tired and worn down. Last night, Rob, Lucy & I were sound asleep by 9 PM.

As proof of this, yesterday morning, I had two phone conversations, one with my Mom and one with Rob. I finally hung up with Rob in order to get ready for work. I went upstairs, showered, put my hair in a towel and threw on my bathrobe. I ran downstairs to check on Lucy, saw that she was happily playing in the yard, and ran back upstairs. What I did next is the proof that I'm obviously exhausted, and that my brain has left me. I turned on the shower, unwrapped the towel from my hair, took off my robe and hopped back in the shower. All I have to say is that I was very, very clean and somewhat late by the time I left the house!

My only hope for accomplishing anything at this point is to make lists. I've got them all over the place. I didn't mention it last week, but I had to buy a bigger handbag in order to accomodate all of the lists that I seem to be carrying around. But, there's another complication to these lists that I spend all of my time making. For example, the other day, I made a list for Wal-Mart, but when I arrived at Wal-Mart, I didn't have the list and of course, I had no clue what was on the list or even where I had put the list. I still need to go back to Wal-Mart.

And it would seem that everyday, Rob will say to me "The next time you're in Wal-Mart make sure you pick up some -------". Does he really think I remember all of these things? This from the man who cut the grass the other night and parked the tractor in the middle of the yard with the lights still on? Why were the lights on anyway? He cut the grass in broad daylight- I don't think that running lights are a necessity in the yard. There just isn't that much tractor traffic!

For as long as I can remember, I have had a habit of paying my bills as soon as I recieve them. I mostly bank online, so as soon as a bill appears in my mailbox, I go online and schedule a payment. But, for the last couple of months, something seems to have gone amiss. Because, I keep forgetting to pay things. I have a feeling that I have unknowingly subscribed to stop receiving paper bills, because although the bills exist, I don't seem to be getting statements.

I really need to look into that matter...I'm pretty sure I wrote it on one of my lists... Now where is it?

My very wise mother would probably tell me that a huge part of forgetting to pay bills, is that I never seem to know what day is. When you work 10-14 days in a row, and do pretty much the same routine for that many days at a time with no change of pace, it's very easy to get confused and have no clue what day of the week it really is. At least twice a week, I'll wake up, look at Rob and say "What day is it?" I think he's starting to worry about me just a little bit!

What I think I need is an alarm clock that wakes me up by telling me several times what day of the week it is. That would solve the problem. Or maybe somehow, I could train my smart little boxer to bring me a specific ball, labeled with the day of the week on that day... I'm reaching here, hugh?

I have a habit of buying a brown and a black pair of shoes when I find a style that I really like. Most of the time, this is a good thing, except when you're in a really big hurry, and trying to get out of the closet and shut the door before a boxer puppy can sneak in and cause all kinds of chaos, so you don't turn on the light. I seem to be ending up at work a lot of days with one black, and one brown shoe. I guess I should just be thankful that the shoes are the same style. I guess it could always be worse!

Lucy's Take... Joyful Sunday & A Sunday Blog Hop

My mama was talking a lot about toilet paper this morning. She tolds me that life is like a roll of toilet paper, da closer you's get to da end of da roll, the faster it goes. I haves no idea what she meant, but it's seemed like it was important. I don'ts know much about toilet paper, and I don'ts really tink I have dat great of concept of time! All I knows is dat when my hooman isn't around, time just seems to drip by! I'ves never played with toilet paper, but it sure looks like fun!

Mommy's lettin me make a joyful list today! Isn't dat great?

I's so excited to have my own joyful list! I'ms a pretty happy puppy and der are lots of tings dad make my little nub start wiggling! Mom says I needs to just pick 2. I gets a big kick outs of ripping tags off of tings. I don't knows what it is, dey just don't belong there, and I luvs removin them! Dis morning, I worked really hard on removin da tag from my dog bed. I didn't gets it da whole way off, but I got a good start!

You oughta see my backs yard! It's wonderful! There are all kinds tings for me to play with der, and I can always find a new adventure in my yard. Its has a big, tall fence arounds it, and sometimes there are chipmunks on dat fence. I luvs to chase them around da yard. I don'ts know why dey run from me, but it's fun to try to catch them! I luvs tuggin on tree branches and big weeds, and there are lots of those out der too. And on one side of da yard is dis really tall grass, Mom calls it Pampas grass, it's great to play in! And I's always draggin my toys outside to play with. When Mommy cuts da grass she lets me chase da tractor- Daddy doesn't allows me to do that. I luvs my yard!

Do you's all know what yams and sweet potatoes are? Well, Mommy says dey are vegetables, and dat dey are very good for me. Dis mornin, and last night for dinners I had sweet potatoes with my kibble! Dey are so good! Yams, sweet potatoes, and green beans are my favorite veggies!

Don't tells my hooman dat I tolds you dis, but da last time she's went to da grocery store, she bought some sweet potatoes, and I'm nots sure why, but she put dem in da freezer. I don't tink she meant to do dat, but sometimes, I tink my hooman is pretty tired and her brain don't works da way it's sposed to! They still tasted pretty good, so I guess it turned outs all right!

I'ms supposed to tell you all about the blog hop that we're takin part in. It's hosted by Lucas's Journey With Sensory Processing Disorder. Mom says to go on over and link up to make some new friends. We just love makings new friends!

Tell Me More Tuesdays Blog Hop

I was just invited by Traci over at Traci66 to play along with "Tell Me More Tuesdays"! It sounds like fun, so I figured why not? Every week she will post eight questions that readers can answer and include in their own post to link up. She will also be taking questions from readers so they can be used for future inquiries.

1.Other than your marriage or the birth of your kids, what has been the happiest moment of your life? My fiance and I had been dating for almost 4 years when he came home one evening and told me that he didn't want to wait another day for us to take the next step in our relationship. I don't know if that was the best moment, or the moment when he actually slid that ring on my finger!

2. Do you use coupons regularly when shopping? Shh... Don't tell my mom, but no I don't! I do try to, but what I end up with is a huge pile of unused, expired coupons floating all through my purse! I have good intentions, they just never pan out!

3. Would you consider yourself to be a frugal or extravagant spender? I'm both. I love a good bargain, but if there's something that I really love, or really want, it doesn't matter what it costs...

4. Are there any magazines or written publications that you regularly read? This is another one of those intentions things... I get several different magazines, and intend to read them. But, right at the moment I've got a stack of unread magazines about 2 feet high. "Cooking Light" is one that usually gets attention, but sometimes they sit for months before they get that attention.

5. Do you host any blog hops or memes? Nope!

6. Are you glad school will be starting soon? I don't have kids, but yes I am glad. It will mean the end of wild children, running unsupervised through my store knocking things over, climbing on $2000 dollar tables, and ripping price tags off of furniture. I can't wait!

7. If you were to win the lottery, say 1 million dollars, what would you do with it? I would put it in the bank. There's really not anything that I need!

8. When and where did you get married? Or are you planning to get married soon? I certainly hope I'm getting married soon... But, we don't have a date.

Admirer Monday Blog Hop

Whew! Monday is finally here! I made it through another very long weekend, and I'm exhausted! But not too tired to make new friends and have some fun with a blog hop! This is our first "Admirer Monday!"

Question of the Week: If you could live in any era of time which would you live in? I've always loved the charm, grace and beauty of what I will call the "Gone With The Wind" era. Everything was so elegant and proper back then from the clothing, the homes right down to the dishes! It's never been hard to imagine myself in amazing silk ball gowns with feathers in my hair, and darnit- it just all looked so romantic. Most men in this lifetime have never even heard the word "woo" much less know what it means or how to do it!

Rules:
#1 You must follow the first three blogs. Heavenly Savings, Giveaway Blogdom, and Congrats to #22 Shining 2 Save for being our winner in the drawing for the #3 spot! If you are a new follower YOU MUST leave a comment letting us know you follow us! Also please leave your BLOG ADDRESS so we know what blog to follow in return!

#2 You do not have to create a blog post, but to be in the drawing for the number three spot which we will choose by random.org each week you must have our button displayed on your blog. Either in a post or on the sidebar!

#3 Please follow as many blogs as you like but more importantly please follow back the blogs that follow you!

#4 If your blog is an adult blog it MUST be clearly marked in your blog headline.

#5 Enjoy meeting New admirers!

** This Linky will reset every Sunday night at 9:45 pm MST. So check back every Sunday to join us each week for Admirer Monday!

Pour Your Heart Out!

I just got off the phone with my fiance... We just had yet another conversation about Texas. As some of you might remember, we've been discussing a move to Texas; Houston to be exact. What I may or may not have said that is while this move is probably definitely the best thing for our future, the way it's going to go down is going to scare the crap out of me, probably cause a lot of anxiety, loneliness, and sleeplessness.

And so after hanging up the phone, I'm pacing the floor thinking about the fact that more than likely we are going to be 2000 miles apart for the better part of 6 months- could be longer, but hopefully not. Granted, there may be occasional weekend visits here and there- but I have a feeling it's going to lean more towards the very rare occasion rather than a regular kind of happening and I'm feeling like I need to either scream or pour my heart out when I stumble upon a Pour Your Heart Out Blog Hop.... Imagine that. I could not help but think "It must be meant to be." I needed to ramble, and here is someone just begging me to do it.

The conversation we just had involved the date for all of this to take place- after all of the conversations in the past couple of weeks, I should have been prepared, should have known what was coming... After all, Rob is taking a trip to Houston in two weeks with the intention of finding retail space and signing a lease. So why did my heart suddenly skip several beats when he said mid September- no later than the end of September. Holy you know what. That's like 4 to 6 weeks away. Okay, this is becoming reality, very quickly. I guess I wasn't expecting it so soon, even though I know there is a definite "rush" to all of these plans.

As if just the idea of the two of us being so far apart for 6 months is not enough on it's own- he's leaving me here to run the business. (Of course, in reality, that's probably the smartest part of the plan, right? I'm brilliant. I'm Superwoman. I have boundless energy.... Of course I do, right? Who better to let take charge than a woman?) So this entails 2 stores, 3 employees + myself.... a couple hundred customers, 18 manufacturers, trucks, deliveries.... Oh boy, I'm getting a headache already. Oh, and I forgot to mention 3 rental properties. No problem! It's taken care of- and I'm sure I'll do it all gracefully and in 3 inch heels, without ever showing signs of stress or even dismay... aha, sure. And it's probably not a big deal that before I leave this wonderful city, I'll need to sell at least one of the 4 houses, preferably two of them... Again, NO BIG DEAL!

Why does this not seem to be that big of a deal to him? Is he just "acting" super cool about the idea of being 2000 miles away from me and leaving me to run his business- or is he really just completely cool with the whole thing? I am freaking out over the idea of Lucy & I coming home to an empty house in the middle of nowhere for the next 6 months... and I just realized that he's going to be gone over Thanksgiving and Christmas. And that's our busy season, how the heck are we going to handle that? Oh my! What am I getting myself into? We have never been apart for more than 3 or 4 days in the 5 years that we've been together. And we're probably going to be apart on our 5 year anniversary.

Where are those aspirins?

Thank you so much to "Things I Can't Say" for dropping onto my computer at exactly the right time. Now do you think you can do something about this serious headache and the massive anxiety I'm feeling?

Bad News Friday... And Friday Blog Hops

I'm afraid that Lucy and I have some very disturbing news to share with you all today. Lucy's new ball has had an accident, or rather a series of accidents and incidents. While the ball still exists, it no longer has a ball like shape or any of the qualities that make it a ball. In other words: there is no longer any air in the ball! This is what happened:

"Hey, Ma. I tink der might be somethin a little wrong wit my ball. I couldn't picks it up this way yesterday."
"Maybe it just needs a little lovin n attention..."
"It's not working..."
"Now whats are we gonna do, Ma?"

With that being said, looks like I'll be searching for another new ball for Lucy. Only this time when I dispose of the injured ball, I'll make sure she's not around because I'm not sure I can stand to see "THE" look again!

Oh boy, it's Friday! Woo hoo! 2 more days of work and then a day off! I'm ready now! Anyway, to continue on with our Friday tradition, Lucy & I are blog hopping and making new friends. Check out all of these great blog hops!:

Dog Park Fun & The Welcome Wednesday Blog Hop

We continued this morning with our vegetable experiment! Lucy had French cut (ooh, la, la) green beans with her Wellness dog food, and there wasn't a crumb left when she walked away from that bowl! "Good Lucy!" I don't know what I'm gonna try next, I'm thinking zucchini or squash!

Lucy & I are big fans of the dog park in Cranberry Township. I've been taking her there since she was about 12 weeks old and I think it's a real treat for her. Dog parks are a wonderful place for dogs to get a lot of exercise and interact with other dogs. And Lucy loves to make new friends. We went last night, and there were a lot of new dogs there! It never seems to matter that Lucy hasn't met a dog before, a quick sniff, sniff and they're off! "Good Lucy!"

I had some concerns about the visit to the dog park last night. Lucy hasn't been around other dogs since the day that our German Shepherd cut her eye, and a few people warned me that she could possibly have lasting memories of this event that could hinder her interaction with other dogs. Thankfully that was not the case, although she did seem a bit apprehensive... For about 2 seconds!

"I'm ready to go to the dog park, Mom! Get this vehicle moving!"

Lucy's newest friend, a 10 month old labrador! Look at the size of this pup! I couldn't believe that he was only 10 months old!

"Are you sure you're not a box-aroo, Lucy?"

Another new friend! This pretty boy is a boxer-bull! It's funny how Lucy can spot another boxer from a mile away, and instantly goes insane. She loves all dogs, but another boxer is just too much to resist... Even if he is part bull dog!

"I didn't get da ball, Ma! But, I'm runnin, does that count as fetch?"

"Okay, Dallas- I knows dis is your toy, I'm just gonna pick it up and run wit it, and you can chase me! How does dat sound?"

Dallas is a regular at the dog park and Lucy and he really love to play together!

"So, you's a Steelers fan, hugh? I guess since you're part boxer, I won't holds dat against you. But, it's a good ting you've got some boxer blood in ya!"

"Hey, Lucy! It's time to go!"
"I'm comin ma! Hang on!"

The Yam Experiment & Tuesday Tag-Along Blog Hop

Lucy and I have been blessed enough to have the last 2 days at home- away from the store. (Notice that I do not say that we have had the last 2 days off...) While I had a ton of painting to do, Lucy and I also managed to sneak in some play time. And I managed to make a quick run to the grocery store. My little boxer was excited to see me come home, and I know that all the smells in the grocery bags peaked her attention, so I humored her and let her help me unpack.

These soup bones are one of Lucy's favorite things. They're relatively inexpensive, but they're pretty tasty and they are very good at satisfying Lucy's urge to chew, keeping those sharp little teeth off of my all ready raw toes, ankles and elbows! I wash em off, put them in the microwave for about 7 minutes, let them cool and then I hand one off to Lucy who will chew, and chew, and chew usually for a good hour or two! They don't splinter like some bones do, and don't get all mushy and gross like rawhide does- and as I mentioned- they're pretty inexpensive. I got a pack of 3 of them for $2.00.

Lucy really loves vegetables, and I've decided that I'm going to experiment with adding different vegetables to her Wellness dog food which she's kind of been picking over lately. (Okay, I accept full responsability for this- she's probably been getting way too much human food- I am guilty as charged!)

At any rate, the vegetable of the day yesterday was to be yams. And I returned home from the grocery store with 4 pretty good sized ones and introduced them to Lucy. I was surprised that my little boxer even paid any attention to this raw yam, but she did. She and I talked about it and played with it for a whole 5 minutes before I decided it was time to cut it up and cook it.

Lucy sat patiently by my feet while I scrubbed and cubed 2 of the yams. (Cutting a yam is not an easy task, and I was feeling like the chances of me getting all of the yams cut without taking off my finger were pretty slim- but I did it! Yams are very hard- I'm pretty sure they're harder than a regular potato- and they make a big orange mess all over the place.)

Lucy was very interested in the pretty orange vegetables floating in the pot, she stuck her little head right in there. I was waiting for her to try to eat one of them raw, but I got the pan out of her reach in time. (Lucy is a good little kitchen helper, and I get a big kick out of showing her what I'm doing, or letting her sniff things. When I load the dishwasher, I let her sniff a plate or two, and she sits and watches as I finish loading the dishwasher. When she was younger, she jumped up on the door of the open dishwasher which was bound to eventually be a disaster. Thankfully, I have broken her of that habit!) She watched as I put the pot on the stove, and then she sat watch waiting for them to be done.

For 10 minutes, Lucy sat there and waited. At one point, Lucy laid down and let out a very deep sigh. I guess she thought this process was taking way too long. I wondered to myself how long this patience would last.

And I had no sooner finished this thought to myself when I turned around and Lucy had decided it was time for her to check on her dinner!

(Notice she's still got paint on her ear!)

"Oh boy, Lucy! You're way too precious! But, it's hot up there and you really need to get 'DOWN' You could get hurt and I would feel horrible! They're almost done, I swear. Just a couple more minutes."

Lucy looked at me, got down, let out a deep sigh and laid down on the floor in front of the stove.

I knew Lucy's patience was wearing thin, so letting those yams cool naturally was out of the question. She was right at my feet, sitting and waiting! I ran them under cool water, and mixed them right in with her dog food.

"Okay, Lucy! Your yams are finally done! 'SIT!'"

Lucy couldn't wait to get at those yummy yams. And she was quick to drag one out of the bowl and into the living room for some odd reason. She abandoned it there, and returned to the kitchen where she pretty much emptied out the bowl- except for about a 1/4 cup of the dog food.

The yams went over so well, that she had them again this morning for breakfast. My fiance thinks I've lost my mind- I'm cooking for the boxer!

I have been trying to clean out our house for the last couple of months. We've got all kinds of stuff that we don't use anymore that's just sitting around collecting dust, and of course, with the impending move- I've got to get cleaning! I had a huge pile of the old USPS boxes, (the ones with the old rates on them) in my study upstairs that needed to go, and I dragged them down to the burn pile, dropping one accidentally on the way. Lucy was quick to jump in and grab the dropped box. She dragged it all over the yard for a couple of minutes before trying to get into the house with it. Of course, the box was too big for her to carry in her mouth and walk up the steps. Lets just say I had a few giggles out of the event!

"Do you need to mail something, little Lucy?"

Without further ado...
